February 18, 1999 FADICA Members Praised for Major Gift to Catholic Education Washington, DC ----- Two members of Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities, (FADICA), Peter Lynch and his wife, Carolyn, were singled out by the organization for "an extraordinary and timely gift to Catholic education". The comments by FADICA's President, Francis J. Butler, came in the wake of a gift of more than $10 million dollars to Boston College's School of Education. The Lynchs, along with eleven other foundations, have been members of a funding consortium under FADICA that has underwritten Boston College's Spiritual Leadership Training Seminar for the past four years. The program, in which the consortium members have invested well over a half of a million dollars, assists inner city Catholic school teachers to develop the moral and spiritual lives of students. The Lynchs said they were making their gift to the School of Education, which will be renamed for them, because of its reputation for emphasizing the training of teachers and because of its emphasis on improving urban elementary and secondary schools. "All of the members of FADICA join me in a joyful applause for the leadership of Peter and Carolyn Lynch for the outstanding example they have shown to other donors," said Dr. Butler. "Catholic urban schools can look forward to abundant numbers of well prepared teachers for years to come thanks to this gift; it is something for which the entire Catholic philanthropic community can give thanks," he added. FADICA is an association of forty-four private foundations with Catholic interests. The survival of Catholic urban schools has been a major focus of its symposia and program activities. The Lynch Foundation has been a member of FADICA for the past seven years. Return to List of News Releases | Back to Top |
