Sixty Foundation Representatives to Gather in Rome/ Symposium on World Peace to Begin FADICA Jubilee Observance
Rome, Italy ----- Sixty foundation trustees from the United States and Europe, all members of FADICA, will gather here June 5-9, 2000 for a seriesof symposia, lectures, and pilgrimage activities, part of the organization's observance of the Millennium Jubilee.
The week will begin with a special symposium on Pope John Paul II's contribution to world peace. Representatives of the Holy See and other distinguished guests will address the members of FADICA, including Cardinal Paul Poupard, President of the Pontifical Council for Culture; BishopDiarmuid Martin, Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace;and Msgr. Celestino Migliore, Papal Undersecretary of State. Also takingpart in the event will be Cardinal Carlo Martini, Archbishop of Milan, who will dialogue with the members of FADICA on the role of the laity in working for justice.
"In the spirit of the Jubilee year, FADICA is responding to the invitation of the Holy Father to join in his millennium reflection on how to promote justice and peace in our world," declared Francis J. Butler, president of FADICA.
In addition to its discussions on world peace, FADICA's week in Rome includes meetings at the Vatican, and the Pontifical Gregorian University where a range of topics will be discussed, including the financial condition of the Holy See.
In the early 1990's members of FADICA cooperated with the Holy See in a series of projects to improve its financial management and operations. Various projects were funded including the introduction of new computer technology in the Economic Prefecture, or budget office, and a series of management studies for the APSA, another pontifical agency overseeing financial operations.
While in Rome FADICA will take part in a symposium hosted by Cardinal Edmund Szoka on the stewardship of the Vatican. Later, the organization will confer its Distinguished Catholic Leadership Award on Cardinal Szoka for his contribution to the improvement of the financial condition of the Holy See.
Members of the organization will also travel to Assisi for pilgrimageactivities.
The members of FADICA will also be received by the U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See, the Honorable Corrine C. Boggs, following their twenty fourth annual meeting on June 9.
FADICA is comprised of forty-five private foundations. Formed in 1976 the association works to promote effective church-related philanthropy.
