New Officers Elected at FADICA Annual Meeting

Washington, DC ----- Philip D. Lewis, a former state Senator and Catholic philanthropist, was elected Chairman of the Board of Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities, Inc. (FADICA) during the association’s twenty-sixth annual meeting June 8, 2002.

Mr. Lewis will preside over a seventeen-member board that oversees the work of an agency providing independent research and information on needs and directions to the world of Catholic charity. FADICA’s mission is to provide ongoing education and networking among major donors.

Mr. Lewis, a trustee of the Frank J. Lewis Foundation of Riviera Beach, Florida, is a commercial and industrial real estate broker by profession, and has had a long career in public service. He served in the Florida State Senate for ten years including a term when he was President of that body. He has served as past chairman of the State Board of Community Colleges and Chairman of the Florida Committee on Aging. After Hurricane Andrew devastated South Florida, Mr. Lewis served as chairman of the Governor’s Disaster Planning and Response Review Committee.

In recent months, Mr. Lewis was appointed chairman a special seventeen-member Ecumenical Review Panel scrutinizing the Palm Beach Diocese’s sexual misconduct policies and procedures.

Mr. Lewis is the past president of the Serra Club of Palm Beach County and a trustee emeritus of the Catholic University of America. Mr. Lewis has served on the FADICA board of directors since 1980.

Also elected as officers of the board are Denise M. Hattler of Hilton Head, SC, who will serve as FADICA Vice President. Ms. Hattler is the chair of the Loyola Foundation of Washington, DC, and the founding chair of Support Our Aging Religious (SOAR) a national charity for retired nuns and clergy.

Michael G. Rauenhorst, a New York attorney, investment banker and foundation trustee was elected FADICA treasurer.

FADICA’s previous Chairman, William F. Raskob, a New Mexico businessman, was elected to FADICA’s Executive Committee.

The FADICA organization recognized Mr. Raskob’s ten-year service as a board officer for FADICA, presenting him with a special award in recognition of outstanding leadership of the group.
