Catholic Social Tradition

Root your philanthropy in the wisdom and values of the Church.

Catholic Social Tradition has shaped the mission of FADICA since its founding. This initiative helps funders understand the principles of Catholic social teaching and apply them to their philanthropic decisions with clarity, faith, and purpose. It offers a path for donors, foundations, and DAF holders who want their giving to reflect Gospel values and respond thoughtfully to the needs of the Church and the world.

Through formation, reflection, and shared learning, members explore how human dignity, the common good, solidarity, and subsidiarity can guide philanthropic strategy and strengthen impact.

The Catholic Social Tradition and Philantrhopy Certificate

At the heart of this initiative is the Catholic Social Tradition & Philanthropy Certificate, created in partnership with the University of Notre Dame’s Center for Social Concerns.

This certificate is designed specifically for funders who want a deeper grounding in the Church’s social teaching and a practical framework to shape their philanthropic identity. Participants engage with:

  • The foundations and principles of Catholic social teaching

  • Real-world applications in charitable giving and impact strategy

  • Reflection and discernment rooted in faith

  • Conversations with peers who share similar values and questions

  • Tools to use CST as a lens for evaluating grants, partnerships, and priorities

The program helps funders move from abstract concepts to concrete decision-making, so their giving reflects mission, values, and a well-formed conscience.
